Masjid & Markaz Jabbar is a purpose build mosque/school in a small village called Mariakani in Kenya, North West of the city of Mombasa. The land was donated by a widow who was unable to maintain the area; her only condition was for a mosque to be built. This generosity of this lady allowed a focal point for the community to come together and worship the Almighty. This was the only mosque in a 5-kilometer radius. Masjid & Markaz Jabbar was built in 2006 and funded by the family of our chairman at Haq Water for Life. This establishment provides education to underprivileged children and increases employment opportunities in the area. Over the years, there has been an influx of people relocating to Mariakani, growing in size and population.

Our Work in Providing Education

In addition to the regular services provided by a mosque, it caters to 50 hifz students on a full boarding basis, where accommodation and 3 meals a day are provided. There are also 20-30 day students who attend for memorisation. There are 3 nursery classes (KG1, KG2 and KG3) where children aged 3 can learn core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Arabic and Science.

Over the past 10 years, there have been over 80 students who have memorised the Holy Quran, which has enabled them to progress either to further studies or seek employment. Hundreds of nursery children have learned to speak two other languages and the basics of core subjects.

Our Appeal

We urgently require your support as substantial renovation and building work is required in the school/mosque, which has deteriorated over time and become unsafe for the students. Our appeal includes work required in the outbuilding where students reside. The work required includes but is not limited to new roofing, restructuring of walls, replastering walls, floor levelling, tiling, sanitisation systems and new beds/mattresses. We estimate the total cost of the renovation will be approximately £25,000

This appeal is not only to complete the physical structure but also to invest in the running of the mosque/school and all the activities it provides to the community.
